Abstract help

At this point the students have read and analyzed the text of
The Martian Chronices in groups and have assisted each other
in determining the thematic values presented by each episodic
chapter.
Also, students have found information regarding space
exploration or colonialism by using the internet and they
have gathered this information as it pertains to how the
chosen topic is presented in the text.
Using the prescribed guidelines all information gathered;
text files, soundbited, images has been compiled and
organized in a web authored file that resembles an internet
site.

Now students will present their web authored documents to
the other groups.

National Standards help

Students apply a wide range of strategies to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and appreciate texts. They draw on their prior experience, their interactions with other readers and writers, their knowledge of word meaning and of other texts, their word identification strategies, and their understanding of textual features (e.g., sound-letter correspondence, sentence structure, context, graphics).

Students adjust their use of spoken, written, and visual language (e.g., conventions, style, vocabulary) to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and for different purposes.

Students conduct research on issues and interests by generating ideas and questions, and by posing problems. They gather, evaluate, and synthesize data from a variety of sources (e.g., print and non print texts, artifacts, people) to communicate their discoveries in ways that suit their purpose and audience.

Students participate as knowledgeable, reflective, creative, and critical members of a variety of literacy communities.

Students use spoken, written, and visual language to accomplish their own purposes (e.g., for learning, enjoyment, persuasion, and the exchange of information).

Pre-requisite Skills help

For this activity students must have the pre requisite skills
needed to accomplish activities 1 & 2.

The student must be able to communicate with peers and
the student must be able to provide positive constructive
criticism as well as accept it.

Student Activity help

3 Students present their sites to the class expalining
and justifying stylistic decisions, what problems they encountered
with their research, what was easiest and how they came to
conclude what they did. They must be able to address
questions from the audience.

When not presenting students critique the presentations on paper
by using the following guideline questions:

LAYOUT
- Is the site easy for the eye? Why?

- Is mobility around the document easily achieved?

- What differs from this presentation and your own?

INFORMATION

- Does the information provided pertain to the text? Why?

- Does the presentor handle the discovered information
with confidence and understanding? Why?

- What differs from the information presented and your own?

Finally students return to their original groups and
ponder on the following as a group:
-What was the most useful thing about this project?

-What was the least useful?

-What would I change about this project? Why?

Assessment help

Web authored document must be presented in an
understandable manner, explanations of strategic lay-out
choices must be given.

Written critique must be neat, free of spelling errors
and coherent.

Technology Requirements/Integration help

Standard 1: Basic operations and concepts- Students demonstrate

Students understand the ethical, cultural,
