Mathematics instructional programs should focus on learning to reason and construct proofs
as part of understanding mathematics so that all students
- Recognize reasoning and proof as essential and powerful parts of mathematics
- Make an investigate mathematical conjectures
- Develop and evaluate mathematical arguments and proofs
- Select and use various types of reasoning and methods of proof as appropriate.
