
Lesson 1 Title: The Kinetic-Molecular Theory of Matter-or What is Heat?
Abstract help
Students will recognize that heat is a form of energy which is the result of molecular motion. (The amount of heat is determined by the number of molecules involved and the average rate of their motion.) They will additionally realize that heat energy can be converted from other forms of energy and can be converted into other forms of energy.

Teacher Information help
1. Students will use reference materials provided to obtain information about heat as a form of energy.
2. Students will construct a concept map to demonstrate understanding of this information. In lieu of a concept map, a diagram showing molecular activity or energy conversion may be substituted.
