
Writing a Story Using Simple Sentences
Abstract help
One week unit on completing a story, using the correct writing process. Students will complete the story using simple sentences with a first sentence and an ending sentence.

Student Activity help
Day One:
1. After prior knowledge activities, create a simple sentence story on an overhead as a teacher model, including all of the steps of the writing process.
2. Include title, beginning sentence, 10 simple sentences (one noun, one verb), and an ending sentence.
Homework: write down a topic for individual story.
Day two:
1. As a whole group, review teacher model and steps to the planner.
2. Students will complete individual planners for simple sentence story, using own ideas (creating 10 simple sentences on topic).
Homework: Complete the planner, if not finished in class.
Day three:
1. Review teacher model as a whole group and the steps to completing a rough draft.
2. Students will complete rough draft, using the 10 simple sentences as their body.
3. Students will add a title, beginning, and ending sentence.
Homework: Complete the rough draft, if not finished in class.
Day four:
1. Review steps to peer editing and revising.
2. Using teacher made editing guide, students will peer edit looking for organization, form, proper sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.
3. Students will begin making revisions on own paper, correcting, adding, or taking away things needed.
Homework: Complete revisions, if not finished in class.
Day five:

2. Students will complete their final copies of simple sentences stories, including all revisions made.
