Cell-a-bration

Students will show a clear understanding of the cell and it's organelles, by demonstrating through real-life parallels of function. Students will choose examples and must defend their choices before a panel of their peers.Students will also interpret the importance of inderdependence within the cell.

Standard 1: The student who is information literate accesses information efficiently and effectively.

Standard 2: The student who is information literate evaluates information critically and competently.

Standard 3: The student who is information literate uses information accurately and creatively.

Learning will be assessed in several different ways. First, the instructor will watch and critique the students during the actual presentation by each group. The rubric will be based on the groups’ ability to support their choices for each organelle parallel. In addition, points will be given on creativity; preparedness and ability to answer peer questions posed by the class.

The Cell (Standard 11, Science Performance Standards)

*Students will gain an overview of the cells' structures, and basic function. This lesson is a scaffold for the learning which will occur in the following unit.

Intro to Organelles of the Cell

In this unit, students will demonstrate their understanding of the cell organelles by drawing parallels to real life examples of function, presenting their data to the class, and defending their position.

Information Manager

Students locate, comprehend, interpret, evaluate, maintain, and apply information, concepts, and ideas found in literature, the arts, symbols,
recordings, video and other graphic displays, and computer files in order to perform tasks and/or for enjoyment.

Effective Communicator

Students communicate in English and other languages using information, concepts, prose, symbols, reports, audio and video recordings,
speeches, graphic displays and computer-based programs.
