Lesson 2: Mini-project presentation
Analyzing and Interpreting the poem: Group prepares and presents a PowerPoint report consisting of the following criteria in "Student Handout 1." Class evaluates presentations. Student Handout 1. A. Summary: Who and what is the poem about? B. Analysis: What are significant images? What is the rhyme scheme? How does syntax and diction add to the meaning of the poem? What is the most important word/phrase in the poem? What is its significance? C. Connections: Recollect memories evoked from this poem. Recollect scenes or sections from literature which resemble the situation and/or theme of the poem. D. Visual: Create an open mind for your character. Inside the open mind place symbols, figures, and key words that show what the character is thinking and how your character sees him/herself. Around the circumference of the open mind place thoughts and symbols of how the world sees the character. E. Discussion: Ask audience for its opinion of the poem. Request questions about the meaning of the poem. F. Closing: Present closing remarks.
Students must know how to use a computer and word process. Students will learn to use the presentation software as they prepare their group report of their selected poem.
