Pre-requisite Skills  (help)

Students should be very familiar with many individuals from the American Revolution era. They need to be selective about the person they chose to present, making sure the can explain the “lasting effect.”

Teacher Information  (help)

Procedure With Teaching Strategies: The teacher introduces a brainstorming session, the students list and discuss people from the Revolutionary war era. After listing several people students come up ideas on how this person still effects our society today.  Example, Benedict Arnold, to be called a “Benedict Arnold,” even today means that you (are at the least) disloyal, or a traitor. His actions serve as a non-example of how to conduct oneself even today.  Example, Daniel Boone, as an adventurer, explorer, and a leader he paved a way through the Cumberland Gap and cut the Wilderness Road establishing a route used by thousands of people in the first westward movement, that led to the later westward movement, that led to the settlement of the entire United States. Some negative consequences this migration led to was the eventual demise of Native Americans. 1. Students choose a person or group by identifying the lasting effects 2. Students are assigned to write a muliti-paragraph research paper 3. Students use the information from their research paper to produce a class presentation to include visuals. Manage Procedure: Students work in whole class setting, independently, and in groups
