When finished with this unit, the students will be able to correctly use the preterite and imperfect (the 2 past tenses) in Spanish. They will be able to distinguish between something that was ongoing in the past, or something that happened only once or a limited number of times.
Informed choices among technology systems, resources, and services Use technology tools and resources for managing and communicating personal/professional information (e.g., finances, schedules, addresses, purchases, correspondence). Routinely and efficiently use online information resources to meet needs for collaboration, research, publications, communications, and productivity. Select and apply technology tools for research, information analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making in content learning. Collaborate with peers, experts, and others to contribute to a content related knowledge base by using technology to compile, synthesize, produce, and disseminate information, models, and other creative works.
It is important for comunnication purposes to differentiate between something that was continuing to happen in the past adn something that happened only a few times or once. If Johnny only fell once, that doesn't establish a pattern. However, if he used to fall all the time, then there might be something to worry about. There is a way to tell the diffrence, we just have to learn the proper tense to use and when to use it.
At the end of the unit, students will be responsible to writing a short children's story in which bothe the preterite and the imperfect tenses will be used. Based on this story, as well as written quizzes, the students' understanding of the material can be assessed.
The students will be taken through the preterite and the imperfect seperately. There will be checkpoints for the students through each of those lessons to make sure they know what they are doing with each individual tense first. Then, the two tenses will be compared with each other and the project will be assigned.
